Dr Marelise Pretorius
MBChB, FRACGP, MMed (Master of Medicine) - Skin Cancer, Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor (Skin Cancer College Australasia), Prof Cert Skin Cancer Surgery
“I have always stood in awe of the wonder of the human body - how it functions, the ability to maintain and repair. Even the complexity of illness and cancer is phenomenal. We are constantly learning, exploring, honing our skills - all with the humble hope of saving lives and giving you, our patient, the best of our abilities.”
Dr Marelise Pretorius obtained her medical degree from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2003. After completion of internship and community service, she immigrated to the beautiful Sunshine Coast in 2006, working in Emergency Medicine, prior to entering GP training in 2017. During GP training, she became interested in the field of skin cancer, having always enjoyed the procedural aspects of medicine.
Dr Pretorius graduated from the University of Queensland in 2022 with a Master of Medicine (MMed - Skin Cancer). She is an Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.
Dr Pretorius strives to help patients achieve the best outcomes in their skin cancer journey, providing education, encouraging prevention and discussing suitable treatment options-surgical or otherwise. She engages regularly with education opportunities to keep up to date in the rapidly advancing field of skin cancer medicine.
Outside of work, Dr Pretorius enjoys the hinterland life with her husband (also a doctor) and 3 children. Quiet time is a rarity in a busy household, but she counts it a blessing to be “taxi-mum” and enjoys staying active and engaged with the community through the kids’ activities.
