VECTRA 3D IMAGING FOR SKIN CANCER
Total body photography
3D Total Body Photography is an unparalleled high-resolution imaging tool for the early detection of melanoma - allowing moles to be seen and compared at every angle for the most accurate long-term monitoring.
The latest technology for early melanoma detection
Finding melanoma early significantly reduces the chance of it spreading, causing complications, or death. That's why finding melanomas early is so important.
Identifying new or changing moles is key. Many melanomas are found only because they are new or changing - not because they look like melanomas. Change is often the earliest sign.
That's where VECTRA 3D Total Body Photography (TBP) comes in. It's world-leading imaging can map and monitor moles with incredible detail. It's a great new option for people at high risk of melanoma.
Who should consider 3D Total Body Photography?
VECTRA full body imaging might be appropriate if you have any of the following:
Many moles on your skin
Over 100 moles on your skin (count them!)
Moles that are large or unusual
Many moles that are large, unusual colours or shapes
History of melanoma
A personal or family history of melanoma
Repeated sunburn
Fair skin that has been severely or repeatedly sunburned
You don't need a referral
If you are in one of the appropriate groups above you can book directly with SunLife. A skin check is needed before the imaging and can be booked at the same time. NO REFERRAL NEEDED.
How does it work?
92 ultra high-definition cameras go off at once, this process takes seconds. The software then takes seven minutes to stitch the images together and create a 3D avatar. Your moles are now accurately mapped.
The digital avatar is reflection-free thanks to advanced cross-polarised lighting. This gives a view into the upper layers of the skin and the patterns inside moles.
In the next step, high magnification images are taken of irregular or "atypical" moles using a digital dermatoscope. These are pinned to the 3D avatar for the most detailed assessment. The first cycle of 3D TBP is complete.
On return for repeat imaging, new and old avatars are compared to identify new and changing lesions, aiding in the early detection of melanoma.
The high risk patients, the 3D TBP system is a valuable extra tool to assist in early melanoma detection and provide peace of mind that your skin is being closely monitored.
