Skin Cancer Checks and Mole Checks
Early detection of skin cancer is vital in reducing complications - including avoidable excisions, bigger excisions, advanced disease and even death. We are here to help find skin cancers early and minimise your risk.
Full-body skin checks
Your skin is examined from head to toe visually with a dermatoscope, looking for abnormal lesions. Risk assessment and care planning happen at the same appointment.
Spot Checks
A new or changing lesion that has not gone away after 4-6 weeks is a concern and should be checked. This can be done during a full skin check or as a quick spot check assessment.
Make it Regular!
Regular skin checks appropriate to your risk are essential. Your doctor will assess you and help make a plan to meet your individual risk and needs.
The doctors at SunLife have specific expertise in skin cancer checks and will thoroughly inspect your skin, closely examining moles, "sun spots", "age spots" and all types of lumps and skin lesions.

What to expect at your skin check
At SunLife a skin cancer check is more than just a quick look over your skin. Your doctor will perform a detailed examination with a dermatoscope, assessing moles, 'sun spots' and all other skin lesions. A dermatoscope allows the doctor to see into the upper layers of the skin to a deeper level than is visible with the naked eye.
During the skin check your doctor may photograph specific moles or lesions - either to monitor or before a biopsy. If required, and time allows, a simple biopsy could be performed at the time of the skin check. It will be discussed with you at the time and your consent confirmed.
The time needed for a full body skin check varies for each individual depending on their skin and background. As a guide, please allow approximately 30 minutes of your time.
